The Chronicles Of Spellborn

Developer Spellborn NV has rolled out a new content patch to the Closed Beta version of The Chronicles of Spellborn. Since today the city of Hawksmouth boasts an improved design and environment. This change was motivated by technical and immersion reasons to make sure new adventurers of The Chronicles of Spellborn benefit from the best gaming experience possible. By reducing the graphic load on the server and by placing High House Silver and Torque in a new area of the city, Spellborn Developers made sure this beginner zone is ready for release.

After last week's announcement on Acclaim's website which stated that Spellborn will be free to play, there were a lot of concerns in Spellborn community. Loyal fans that make up the core of Spellbron community and probably core of their customers felt betrayed and discouraged by the notion that Spellborn would turn in just another f2p grind fest type of game.

Spellborn developers have just released the statement explaining that Spellborn is indeed NOT FREE TO PLAY and will require monthly subscriptions. What they have for "free" is one single zone, starting zone. To progress past this zone one needs to pay subscription fee. Also, there will be no in-game item selling. It's exactly the same concept as Ryzom used to have.

Seems like Spellborn was unable to get enough interest from MMORPG community. North American version will also be launched on November 27th, same as in Europe. With NA launch, as a last resort for a game that does not have strong following, Spellborn has been made Free-To-Play. It's not clear if the game will be free in other regions or just in US. This F2P model will follow Acclaims standard, where you can download and play the game for free, but for access to premium content and services you would have to pay. Acclaim said they have several payment options.
